In Chile, golf —just like other sports such
as football, thoroughbred horseracing and polo— was introduced
by the British immigrant community which settled in the Cerro Alegre
suburb of Valparaiso. The southern hillsides of the bay of Valparaiso
were the setting for the first tee-offs at what a group of friends,
mainly of British origin, called the "Playa Ancha Golf Club",
acknowledged as the oldest golf club in the country.
In Santiago, the Los Leones Golf Club was founded in 1921 and the
Prince of Wales Country Club in 1925. The Rocas de Santo Domingo
Golf Club and the Brisas de Santo Domingo Golf Club followed the
trend of good golfing. The Chilean Golf Federation was founded in
1932, bringing together the 48 clubs along the length of Chile from
Arica in the north to Punta Arenas in the extreme south. Amongst
its latest achievements, the World Amateur Golf Team Championship
in 1998 stands out, which was won by the team from Great Britain.
We have the right contacts to organize visits to
all the most suitable golf courses along the greens of Chilean golf
clubs.
